Kano Court Commences Trial for Three Suspects Accused of Kidnap and Murder

The Kano State High Court No. 16, presided over by Justice Hafsat Yahaya Sani, has officially commenced the trial of three individuals facing charges of kidnapping and murder stemming from an incident in the Rano Local Government Area.

Dependable NG reports that the defendants, identified as Hajara Sani, Ayatullahi Armaya’u, and Jibril Ado, are accused of conspiring to kidnap a victim named Aliyu Haidar. They are alleged to have successfully collected a ransom of N2 million but subsequently murdered the victim.

During the initial court proceedings, the state prosecutor, Barrister Lamido Abba Sorondinki, presented the first prosecution witness to testify in support of the charges leveled against the three accused persons.

Following the testimony, the defense lawyers cross-examined the witness. The counsel to the first defendant, Barrister Jamila Inuwa Sa’ad, then requested that the court provide a copy of the written statement the witness had given to the police. Justice Hafsat Yahaya Sani granted this request and ordered that the defense lawyers be given immediate access to all relevant documents pertaining to the case.

The court subsequently adjourned the proceedings to January 2, 2026, for the continuation of the trial.
