Uche Nwosu Vows Loyalty to APC Amid Defection Rumours

Former governorship candidate and prominent Imo State politician, Uche Nwosu, has shut down speculation regarding his political future, officially dismissing reports of a planned exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC). The rumours, which had gained traction across various social media platforms, suggested that Nwosu was preparing to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.

Nwosu addressed the reports on Sunday, February 1, 2026, during the APC’s e-registration and revalidation exercise in his hometown of Eziama Obaire, Nkwerre Local Government Area. In a deliberate show of commitment, he completed his registration in the presence of key ward executives and community leaders, framing the act as a definitive rebuttal to what he described as unfounded claims by “mischief-makers.”

“I remain a committed member of the All Progressives Congress,” Nwosu declared, emphasizing his history with the organization. “I will not abandon a house I helped to build. I have no plan, nor any intention, to defect to the African Democratic Congress or any other party.” His statement aims to steady the nerves of his political base, known as the “Ugwumba Movement,” which remains a significant force in Imo State politics.

The former Chief of Staff also clarified the status of his political associates and the wider “Rescue Mission” family. He reaffirmed that former Governor Rochas Okorocha and other key stakeholders in their camp remain firmly within the APC. This clarification is particularly significant given the fluctuating political alliances currently reshuffling the Nigerian landscape, most notably in neighboring states like Kano and Taraba.

Nwosu used the platform to advocate for a “grassroots-first” approach to the 2027 elections. He urged his supporters and the residents of Imo State to take the ongoing registration exercise seriously, noting that political relevance is determined by numbers and active participation. According to him, the goal of the current revalidation exercise is to create a digital and verifiable database of the party’s strength before the upcoming primary season.

The event in Nkwerre was attended by a broad spectrum of local leaders, including the Eze-Elect of Eziama Obaire and several former local government chairmen. Their presence was interpreted as a local endorsement of Nwosu’s leadership and a signal that the APC remains unified in his constituency despite the national-level rumors.

As political parties begin to reposition themselves for the next general election, Nwosu’s public pledge of loyalty is a tactical move to solidify his standing within the ruling party. By participating openly in the e-registration, he has signaled to the APC national leadership that his influence in Imo State is both secure and actively working toward the party’s consolidation.

For now, the “house” that Nwosu helped build appears to have his full support. His focus, he says, is on strengthening the party from the ward level up, ensuring that when the 2027 contest begins, the APC will be a formidable and undivided house.
