Bandits Demand ₦2m ‘Levy’ in Katsina Community Despite Existing Peace Deal
Armed bandits on Saturday afternoon stormed the Unguwar Bugau community in Dayi Ward, Malumfashi Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State, demanding a massive levy of ₦2 million from residents.
Dependable NG reports that the incident, which occurred at about 3:00 p.m., was shared by security analyst Bakatsine on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.
According to the analyst, the attackers entered the community and explicitly informed residents that they must pay the ₦2 million within one week. Notably, the bandits then left without either abducting or harming anyone. The analyst pointed out the significance of the location, noting: “Notably, Malumfashi LGA is among the LGAs that previously entered a peace deal with these bandit groups.”
Parallel Attack in Sokoto State
In a separate, more violent incident reported in neighboring Sokoto State, bandits raided the Shallah community in Turba ward, Isa LGA, on Saturday night.
The attack was confirmed by Bakatsine, who reported that the assailants killed one person, injured another, and proceeded to burn several homes and grain silos during the invasion.
The same bandit group was reported to have subsequently moved to the Barkeji community in the same local government area. There, they successfully abducted two residents before escaping and fleeing into the surrounding bush.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities in both Katsina and Sokoto States have yet to issue an official statement regarding the brutal incidents.
