Fayose Accuses Makinde of Vice Presidency Plot
Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has launched a blistering attack against Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, alleging that the governor is plotting to become the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 presidential election. Fayose’s explosive claims follow a high-profile closed-door meeting held on Tuesday in Minna, Niger State, involving Atiku, Makinde, and former Head of State Ibrahim Babangida.
According to Fayose, the meeting was orchestrated to cement a new political alliance, with Makinde allegedly promising to deliver substantial financial and strategic support to Atiku’s camp. Fayose claimed that Makinde agreed to join the ADC on the explicit condition of being handed the Vice Presidential ticket, asserting that this proposal is slated for ratification by Atiku’s inner caucus.
The former Ekiti governor detailed that Makinde pledged an immediate contribution of N10 billion to fund the party’s takeoff, with promises of additional funds once the campaign formally commences. Furthermore, Fayose alleged that Makinde vowed to secure Southwest delegates for the ADC primary and leverage his familial ties to Rivers State to guarantee South-South support.
Strategically, Fayose revealed that Makinde intends to use his influence to divide the Southwest votes, ostensibly giving the ADC a necessary advantage over President Bola Tinubu. The former governor added that follow-up negotiations are scheduled to take place in Dubai within the next two weeks to finalize these arrangements.
