Osun Alleges APC Plot to Disrupt Tinubu Visit
The Osun State Government has officially declared that it has uncovered a sinister plot by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to engineer widespread chaos and violence during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s upcoming official visit to the state. This alarming accusation was made public through a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi. According to Alimi, the administration has intelligence indicating that the APC intends to sponsor a violent protest aimed at creating a total breakdown of law and order, specifically designed to blacken the reputation of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.
The government alleges that this planned disruption is a calculated diversionary tactic intended to sabotage the President’s visit, which is scheduled for Saturday. Alimi stated that the APC plans to orchestrate unrest and immediately attribute the blame to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Accord Party, aiming to manipulate public opinion ahead of the intensely contested August 8, 2026, governorship election in Osun State. The commissioner asserted that the government would not be intimidated by what he termed clandestine acts of brigandage and emphasized its commitment to maintaining peace and security throughout the state.
Addressing the populace, the government urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding despite the alleged machinations of the opposition. Alimi strongly advised the public to steer clear of Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo, the designated venue for the President’s visit, warning that the area could become a flashpoint for violence orchestrated by the alleged plotters. The statement reiterated that neither the PDP nor the Accord Party is involved in any such activities, despite ongoing disputes regarding withheld local government allocations.
This latest political friction underscores the escalating tensions between the ruling PDP and the opposition APC in Osun State, as both parties gear up for the upcoming electoral battle. The government remains confident that justice will prevail through legal channels regarding the local government issues and has tasked security agencies with ensuring the President’s visit proceeds without incident.
