The Federal Government has reportedly secured the release of 100 schoolchildren who were abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Papiri, in the Agwara Local Government Area (LGA), Niger State.
Dependable NG reports that bandits attacked the school on November 21,2025, in the remote community of Papiri. The gunmen, who arrived around 2 a.m. on motorbikes, reportedly stormed the school dormitories over a devastating three-hour period, initially abducting 315 people—303 students and 12 teachers.
Following the mass abduction, security forces and community hunters were immediately deployed to comb nearby forests for the missing abductees.
DAILY POST recalls that in the immediate aftermath, 50 pupils managed to escape within the first day and were quickly reunited with their families. However, 265 individuals—including 253 children and all 12 teachers—had remained in captivity until the recent successful negotiation effort secured the freedom of another 100 students.
