The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a direct appeal to voters in Anambra State, urging them to reject vote buying and all forms of financial or material inducements ahead of the state’s gubernatorial election scheduled for November.
Dependable NG reports that the Commission took to its official X handle on Thursday to caution the electorate against the practice of trading their votes for money or material items. INEC emphatically stressed that such practices severely undermine the integrity of the electoral process and actively hinder meaningful development within the state.
The core message from the electoral body was clear and concise: “Reject stomach infrastructure. Demand real development. Say NO to vote buying.” This plea reiterates the Commission’s public commitment to conducting a poll that is genuinely free, fair, and credible. Furthermore, INEC appealed to all political parties and their candidates participating in the election to pivot towards issue-based campaigns. The Commission urged them to focus their messaging on policies and programmes that are designed to improve the welfare of the people, rather than attempting to exploit the voters’ current economic conditions for short-term electoral gain.
