Ukraine security guarantees are taking shape as 26 European countries pledge to deploy troops as a “reassurance force” in Ukraine after a ceasefire with Russia. French President Emmanuel Macron announced this commitment at the Coalition of the Willing Summit in Paris, where leaders discussed providing post-war military support to Ukraine.
The reassurance force will guarantee Ukraine’s security after a peace deal, with participating countries maintaining a presence on land, sea, or air. US support for these security guarantees is expected soon, despite initial reluctance from President Donald Trump.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte emphasized the need for a broad coalition to support Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression and strengthen Europe’s deterrence capabilities. Germany has expressed openness to participating in a potential peacekeeping mission but will decide on military involvement once the framework conditions are clarified.
The pledge marks a significant step towards ensuring Ukraine’s security and stability in the region. However, Russia has shown no interest in a peace accord, with President Putin indicating no interest in allowing foreign troops in Ukraine.
